KAKAMEGA, a town in western Kenya roughly 420 km from Nairobi, is the Western Province's provincial headquarters. It is a pleasant town and home of the Luhya peoples whose main industry is fishing and agriculture. The primary tourist attraction is the Kakamega Forest, the last of a thick rain forest that once covered that entire part of the country where hundreds of bird species reside. Kakamega town has all common amenities of a larger town.
