Karen is a very green and lush suburb south west of the city centre named after the well known Danish author Karen Blixen from Out of Africa fame. Karen boasts fine villas with extensive surrounding gardens and is known for its large European residents. It has it's own supermarkets, including the newly opened Karen Crossroads shopping centre, and boasts excellent restaurants like The Talisman, Rusty Nail and Open House. Karen has numerous horse stables and contains a race course that borders the Ngong forest. Karen has a few very good British international schools and now also has its own Karen Hospital. Security is good in Karen due to private security firms patrolling the streets at night.
